The Real Reason tendercare Exists

I’m Shauna, the founder & CEO of tendercare, and this is our first-ever newsletter. So let me start by sharing why tendercare exists at all.

I didn’t start tendercare because I had a brilliant idea. I started it because everything was falling apart. My dad’s insurance expired, his wedding ring was stolen, he was scammed, isolated, getting sicker, and I couldn’t find a single thing that made any of it easier.

I bought gadgets that didn’t work, argued with family, cried in the car, and felt like I was failing him over and over. I kept thinking: If we’re one of the now 63 million caregiving families in the U.S., why does it feel like we’re invisible?

So I started building. I didn’t have all the answers, but I knew I had to try. Over time, the more I talked to other caregivers, the clearer it became: we’re all hacking this together in isolation. I wanted something beautiful and something that actually worked. tendercare is exactly that – the place to stop doing it alone. Everything we build is shaped by families who’ve walked this walk before.
Every feature is tested through real experience.


Every step is designed to bring order to the chaos and dignity to the process. This is more than just tech, it’s a tool for people who love hard. And we’re building it for you.

Every week, I’ll be here with what I’m learning, noticing, and building—as a family caregiver first, and as a founder trying to solve the problems big and small we all face in caring for our families. Because if you’re in this too, you deserve to feel seen, supported, and a little less alone.
